Saw this in SoHo a few weeks ago but forgot to post the image - it still makes me laugh.

So it's over

Worldcupfinal Springst Nyc
The Azzurri score, Spring St, in NYC.

After four beautiful weeks of football (that's the football you play with your feet for my American audience) the world cup has finished. And it finished with quite a bang in New York.

I said before that I believe that New York is the best place bar the host country to experience the World Cup. For New York is the world, let me explain what I mean. There are people from every country living here and I don't mean just a small handful of people I mean whole communities transplanted to this amazing city and that makes the World Cup here something special.

Whenever I walked down a street with my England shirt on someone would say 'what was the score' or wish England luck in the upcoming match, it's been great. Huge crowds appeared around any TV in bars, shops and restaurants that was showing a match, often spilling onto the pavement/sidewalk.

It's just a shame that the city authorities didn't really recognize how popular it would be and set up huge public viewing areas (they did in Boston).

I watched half the game at a block party on Spring Street in SoHo that had a portable outdoor screen set up. The only problem was there were a lot more people there than I think they expected and the screen went off after approx. 30 minutes but apart from that it was great success. We legged it round Dimiti's in case you wondered how I watched the rest of the game.

That was over five hours ago and I can still hear the Italian fans celebrating as they drive around - good times.

I'm not entirely sure what I am going to do with my weekends now - back to the American sports I guess.

While I was watching the match I turned around to see this couple with their bulldog behind me I managed to get this shot of them before they walked away.
