He's Alive

Jacobisfound
he's alive.

One of the highlights of my recent trip was spending some 'quality' time with my boy, Jacob. Him and Nicki have some great news which I won't spoil.

I was lucky enough to catch Jake and Nicki at home when they weren't busy and we spent Saturday afternoon hanging out and I got Jake to set up a blog and post some of his great photos on flickr.

Now Jake is a very funny writer and if he keeps the blog going it will be a must read for me every day.

Click here to go read his blog and post some amusing comments or click here to see his photos.

Much ado about nothing

I am rather late to post anything about what happen to me last Monday night but it was rather an extreme experience. It has taken me a while to actually find some time and sit down with my computer and talk about it.

So I am prattling on again without telling you dear reader what happen to yours truly. Let's set the scene, I had four days to get all of my work done because I was flying back to London on Thursday evening and had about 6 days worth of work to do. So I was working late on Monday night leaning into my monitor grafting away when I started to feel a real numbing pain in my lower left side. I wondered if I had sat down rather to quickly, had I twisted something? Was it just gas?

The pain started to get worse and I figured that something was rather wrong, but what was wrong with me? At this point I thought it was better if I headed home because if I was going to lose control of my bowels/stomach it would be better to do it at home.

So I jumped in a taxi and headed home, while all the time the pain getting worse. When I got home I phoned 'that girl' and she talked me into leaving the apartment and getting a taxi to the emergency room at the nearest hospital.

So I get the hospital (NYU on 34th street and 1st Avenue) and luckily the place isn't that busy and only have to wait ten minutes until I am seen but by this point I am shaking with pain. I get shown into my own room, my blood gets taken for a blood test and 'that girl' arrives to keep me company and help keep my mind of what it might be. A doctor then arrives and after a brief conversation comes back with an ultrasound machine to take a look at my insides.

After a short while he decides to send me for a CAT scan and I am wheeled off in a ill fitting hospital gown that barely covers me modesty (not that I really care about at this point I just want the pain to stop as soon as possible).

After the scan I am wheeled back and the doctor returns and tells me that I have a fricking Kidney stone. A kidney stone at my age! Well he goes on to tell me that it is quite common for men and I quote verbatim “men of my age to suffer from kidney stones” and advises me to drink more water (which includes beer). Further reading “wikipedia's kidney stone article.

Luckily it is quite a small one and it is almost passed into my bladder and should pass without too much pain so I told that I can leave (with a prescription for some kick ass painkillers) and do so. So now it's about 11pm (I think I arrived at 8pm) and 'that girl' comes home with to look after me. After I get home the pain briefly kicks up a notch and disappears completely about midnight when I fall asleep.

So that was my first encounter with the American medical profession and I know it would of been a lot more stressful without the guidance and support of 'that girl'. In fact I would go as far to say that I almost enjoyed it if it hadn't been for the agonizing pain.

More Awards

Simon and I collected some more awards this week. Nothing really serious just a local New York show called surprisingly the New York Addy's. The best thing about this award show is that it's pretty light hearted because it's not a biggie like Cannes or the One Show, but that allows it to be fun and fun it was.

We picked up 4 or 5 awards, I'm not quite sure of the number because we are credited on quite a few projects from last year. One of the best things about the evening was the free photo booth that Simon and I took full advantage of, The other photos are in the special members section...

It's the little things

That make me exicted these days: winning a pitch against a really good advertising agency, getting promoted to Associate Creative Director, early spring days (Saturday was 65 degrees - perfect t shirt weather), booking a ticket back to the UK and a new season of the Sopranos on TV.

So maybe that is really making light of what has been an exciting couple of weeks.

Simon and I have been working on this pitch for the last four weeks and late last week we found out that we won it. But there were a few loose ends to tie up and it seems that they are sorting themselves out and we are now beginning to produce the new campaign that I can't wait to share with everyone... I have to be a little careful because we haven't announced the new client to the press yet.

I got promoted to Associate Creative Director which is a big deal but also doesn't really mean anything at the same time, because I have been doing the job for the last three years. I just get new business cards now.

The weather looks like it might have turned and winter might finally be coming to an end. Friday and Saturday were both gorgeous, with temperatures hitting the high sixties it was warmer than San Francisco and an indication of the spring to come although it's raining today.

I am returning to the UK for a long weekend on the 24th of this month and will be in London on Sunday the 26th, flying back on the following Tuesday.

The new series of the Sopranos starts tonight on HBO. I really haven't been this excited about a TV program for quite a while... I'll update this post after I have watched later tonight or tomorrow but until then here is the official trailer for the series.

A new hope

I got sent this video clip from my boss and I thought it was a good idea to post it. The backlash against President Bush seems to be gathering pace even the news media has started to question his ability and that can only be a good thing for America.
