Nigel in NY

So the holiday snowboarding plan went a little like this: lets wait until the last minute and try and book a few days between Christmas and New Year, we are bound to find a great deal and some steep, deep fresh powder in Colorado or Utah. So that plan failed because I couldn't find anything that was not expensive or had bad snow coverage.

So on Wednesday, Nigel hopped on a plane and flew across the country to New York to spend some quality time in some of New York's best bar's and pubs.

It hasn't all been drinking and we have tried to add a little culture to the hedonistic drinking binge and to that end we went to MoMA on Friday morning. There two excellent exhibitions on display:

SAFE: Design Takes On Risk, the first major design exhibition at MoMA since its reopening in November 2004, presents more than 300 contemporary products and prototypes designed to protect body and mind from dangerous or stressful circumstances, respond to emergencies, ensure clarity of information, and provide a sense of comfort and security.

and

Pixar: 20 Years of Animation. Featuring over 500 works of original art on loan for the first time from Pixar Animation Studios, the show includes paintings, concept art, sculptures, and an array of digital installations.

SAFE was really interesting and I came away wishing I had studied product design as part of my art education. And of course the Pixar was excellent if not a little full of families (screaming kids) because of the holiday period.

Moma Nigel

For some reason Nigel was obsessed with this pisscaso, now I think about it it has always had a thing for women with big feet, broad shoulders and adam's apples.

I think it's time I go through my digital camera and try and pick out some amusing pictures from the last four nights, which can tell a story:

So we would usually go out for a pre dinner drink...

Nigel Andme

Get some food were we would drink some more...

Nigel Milkorsake

and then back to the bars

Nigel Crazy2

until we had drunk enough to get stupid and one of us would think it would be a good time to go

Nigel Crazy

and then take Nigel to the same Kebab place so he could get his magic kebab which would mean he would avoid a hangover... bastard!

Nigel Magickebab

okay the last one which is not at night but was taken today and is quite funny...

can you guess where his second hand is?

New toy

Sd400
mmmm electronics.

I decided I needed to post more pictures to this blog to help me capture the normal everyday things I do and people I work and party with. So this is my christmas present to myself, a little reward for working so hard for the last three months.

So I bought this little compact camera - I could of spent a lot more but buying the Canon SD400 made a lot of sense - it's small so I can carry it around, it has great image quality and above all it's cheap only 250 dollars from B&H.

Happy Holidays

Xmas
photo from flickr user santheo

So Christmas is over for another year. And it's so true that they seem to come around quicker each year. With the speed that this year has gone past I half expect there to be another one next week.

I spent Christmas day with my friends Brian and Catherine, Catherine's mum Shirley, Catherine's cousin Casey, Neil and Blaze the dog. Catherine cooked a heart dinner which was washed down with plenty of red wine and then digested while we watch the afternoon American Football match on TV. A day I found most agreeable.

This bit is especially for Sandy because I know he'll be excited about it, Catherine's cousin Casey is an actor and appeared in quite a few films, the most famous being: Young Guns as one of the young guns, Back to the Future and Stand by Me.

Hunter mountain

On Sunday I woke up at a ridiculously early hour and left the warmth of my bed and headed out into the cold pre-dawn morning air. Walked a whole one block and got on a bus to the 'local' ski area: Hunter Mountain.

Now I have been working and partying pretty hard the last two weeks and in theory I should of just tried to chill the mother down, but is that not the done thing in New York. And if I wasn't going boarding I would of been asked to work Sunday (as well as the 10 hours I did on Saturday!).

So as an escape it worked perfectly - I got to discover Hunter Mountain with my friend (English) Mark from work and his girlfriend and friends. Just an hour and half on a bus gets you to a pleasant compact mountain that is well organized and when we went not too busy ( I have heard that it gets chaotic)

So this is the first time I have ever experienced pre Christmas boarding and I like it. I kind of wish I had tried it last year, apart from the long trip to Mount Snow in Vermont I haven't really sampled the delights of East coast boarding.

The Cronic of Narnia

CronicnarniaClick here to watch it.

This is amusing on many different levels, it's taking the piss out of Nigel's latest film, to be fair he emailed me the link. It captures the feeling of a New York Sunday, I'd like to point out that I don't or have never been to the Magnolia Bakery for cup cakes. It shows that Saturday Night Live is starting to become watchable again.
